"When We Was Fab" is a song written by George Harrison and Jeff Lynne about the days of Beatlemania, when The Beatles were sometimes referred to as the "Fab Four". The song appears as the sixth track on Harrison's 1987 album Cloud Nine and was later released as the second single from that album in January 1988. In the United Kingdom, it peaked at #25 in the UK Singles Chart, and in the United States, the song peaked at #23 in Billboard magazine's Hot 100 singles chart.

Probably demos recorded shortly prior to the sessions for All Things Must Pass, this is Harrison playing solo, unaccompanied by anything but his voices and guitar, sometimes electric, but usually acoustic. The fidelity is absolutely marvelous, at the point of the top of the pyramid for an unreleased recording. The performances are very interesting, if often tentative; the 15 songs are divided equally between versions of some of the better All Things Must Pass tracks ("Art Of Dying," "Run Of The Mill," "Let It Down," "Beware Of Darkness," "If Not For You"), and songs that didn't end up making the final cut. Some of these were obviously too weak for inclusion on the final album, but others are good, or would have been strong contenders for the LP with more polishing of the songwriting and production ("Nowhere To Go," "Beautiful Girl," and "Tell Me What Has Happened To You" are standouts). One regrets that Harrison didn't take the time to work these into shape for the third disc of All Things Must Pass, instead of filling out the triple album with half-baked jams.

This one is kind of a left-over collection but you wish all leftovers were this enjoyable. I prefer how this one starts compared to "Pirate Songs", as we are re-introduced to the "Shanghai Surprise" soundtrack. George would never sound like this again, travelling to the 30's with an Asian touch. I know some people are less than crazy about these songs but they work just fine for me.
The Rockline interview happens to be my favourite George audio interview as he steeled himself by having a few beers and bringing along Jeff Lynne in order to face the challenge of doing radio promo and taking live on the air calls (!) (what I wouldn't give to talk to George!). Try to trade for the complete interview on bootlegzone.com, if you like George you won't regret it.
Then, we have a lot of cool tracks that have appeared elsewhere, saving us the expense of seeking these out ("It don't come easy" w. George vocal, "Save the world" from the Greenpeace CD, "The Prnce's Trust Rock Gala" tracks from June '87, the Dylan special from '92 and a couple of demos).
It all ends just as great as it started with the very atmospheric "Dream Away" from the "Time Bandits" soundtrack, which for me was love at first hearing. Great stuff!

Featuring unreleased and rare performances of "the other two" Beatles. "Through Many Years" is a tribute to the talents of George Harrison and Ringo Starr. The tracks included here have been taken from the finest sources available, including dubs made by late Abbey Road studio engineer John Barrett.

The recordings George and Ringo made in the early 70's bested those of their more esteemed colleagues both aesthetically and critically (as well as on the charts!) many times, and the music featured here does nothing to challenge that fact.

Many of the tracks on this set owe their appearance on this set to the Abbey Road vault search the late John Barrett undertook in 1982. The references cassettes he made while doing said research (...) are the primary source used for most of the tunes on "Through Many Years". Other songs have come from the finest sources yet, so sit back and enjoy some down-to-earth music from the quiet one with a little help from his friend Ringo.
