In a single day in February of 1911 Arnold Schoenberg composed of 5 Sechs Kleine Klavierstucke op. 19 published by Universal (only) two years later ... In them shines the maximum concentration of the expression: writing passes by fragmentation melodic performance of recitative, the density of the plot to the pure static chord polyphonic, the superposition of different sound levels to boldly rhythmic accents ... with the op. 19 has completed the formal process of annihilation ... "So Giacomo Manzoni in his" Arnold Schoenberg "shown here in an attempt to make no account of the text pianistic" original "that constitutes the structure and the primary source of inspiration and departure of this very interesting Ecce Combo .
Engraving not recently which has perhaps benefited the long gestation and subsequent exit near the centenary of seminal op. 19. Alfonso Santimone founder, with others present here, worthy of El Gallo Rojo, has fully explained, in a nice interview of the past May (AAJ), their personal motivations and music on which we will not dwell further. We are facing a test of great conceptual and musical, it should be acknowledged in Santimone of great courage (youthful recklessness?) With a choice, winning for the writer, not motivated by calculation but only by passion and soul. When you think about the relationship between jazz and music of the past century come to mind the names of Stravinsky and Ives, almost never what it appears one of the musicians deeper, intact and revolutionaries of the past century. Santimone re-located instead in Schoenberg the same density as jazz "obligated" for decades to extreme condensations. That the issue of reproducibility and the concentration have a relationship? It is so comfortable in front of the condensation of the variety and density timbrico- dynamic schoenberghiana, understands how the melodies of timbres-colors, are less distant from Monk than might appear.
The six songs del'op. 19 do not exceed in aggregate the five minutes; then it is quite clear that these are only a matter of suggestion and departure, albeit forming and structuring. Santimone captures, rivivificandola, modernity Op. 19 amounting in to his own use the great harmonic freedom and the significance ritimo- dynamic. With these starting elements skillfully builds a fresco in which their songs alternate with Sechs Kleine Klavieststucke, at the center to act as a pivot free improvisation starting from the suggestions of the Viennese master. The tracks on behalf Santimone have instead direct references to songs schoenberghiani and are the songs more varied and more pronounced with the jazz, apparently the most twisted, frayed at the limits of the informal; only in appearance because the command "hide the shape ..." is personal motto and aimed primarily to himself and to his own music and the relationship becomes here a structural / structuring, is the same in Schoenberg Santimone to recognize one of his principal teachers and inspirations.
The compositional skills and rewrite Santimone is remarkable, the interplay and unity to hear musicians total, and thus comes a test of great originality and freshness, testimony of the talent of the author and collective Gallo Rojo as a whole . For several years now El Gallo Rojo is one of the most interesting lives and original proposals at the international level. No exception Ecce Combo. Only we would like, as someone has already rightly pointed out, to have the opportunity to listen regularly live proposals of this value.
