Jesse Roper started to learn Guitar at the early age of 7 which quickly led to his first public start at the age of only 9, when he had the opportunity to jam with Colin James, at the Royal Theatre in Victoria, B.C. From then on, there was really no stopping Jesse as he began thrilling audiences all across Canada, with his amazing singing and playing of Modern Blues and Rock. Jesse Roper, now at the age of 28, has already shared the stage with many Canadian greats and has played at numerous Festivals. Now with his debut release, called "The Roper Show", a nickname he got from his friends after playing his music around campfires, what he calls an EP, but really with 8 Tracks, I think it could easily be referred to as a Debut Album.
"The Roper Show" consists of 8 Tracks of which all songs are credited to "The Roper Show" which as a band consists of Jesse Roper (Guitar/Bass/Lead/Backup Vocals) and Steve Ling (Drums/Percussion/Backup Vocals). Also joining Jesse and Steve on this album were Rebecca Harrison (Voice over) and Adam Sutherland (Keyboard). Adam Sutherland also Recorded and Mixed "The Roper Show" and also Co-Produced it with Jesse Roper.
Any doubt as to Jesse Roper's Singing, Guitar Playing, and Songwriting prowess, are quickly put to rest with his opening Solo Track "Moving To Toronto". This super fast paced extravaganza sets the tone for most of this exceptional album and certainly continues with the second Track "London Gin" which I found similar in style to some of Canned Heat's music. Track 3 "Bill Payin' Blues" slows it down a bit and shows us a style I am sure was inspired from Stevie Ray Vaughan. The next 3 Tracks once again pick up the pace with the favorite one for me of those 3 being Track 6 "Rockin'Chair", which for me seemed a little like good old Allman Brothers. Wonderful Backup Vocals on that one. Track 7 "Grow Up" is the longest Track on "The Roper Show", one which starts out slow and ends slow, but really gets it's groove on in the middle. Again some nice Backup Vocals in this one, as well. The last Track is a unique one and is basically a singing advertisement by Jesse Roper telling you "The Roper Show.... Come Back For More..."
"The Roper Show" was certainly a fun and very refreshing Album to listen to. Jesse Roper, although he uses a lot of familiar sounds, certainly still comes away with a total feeling of uniqueness, once again showing us all just how huge of a talent pool the Canadian Music Scene is.
"The Roper Show" is an EP/Album I have no problem Highly Recommending.
