Recorded and released in 2000 'Glory Bound' followed in the glorious footsteps of 'The Voice' and featured contributions from Micky Moody (Whitesnake) and Mick Green (The Pirates) on guitars, Paul Jones (Blues band) on harmonica and Steve Simpson (Roger Chapman) on fiddle.
Contains a fine range of musical styles, a title song written especially for Chris by Mike D'abo (lead-Singer Manfred mann), who had also penned 'Handbags and Gladrags' for him back in the 60's and another great song by Ricky Byrd who had also contributed two songs and guitar to 'The Voice'.
One of the more irritating aspects of the music industry is how the drive for commercial success seems to ensure that genuine talent is overlooked. The career of Chris Farlowe is a case in point. What we have here is a first rate collection of well produced, well orchestrated and exceptionally well delivered tracks in the soulful blues tradition that typifies the style of Chris Farlowe. Farlowe exudes passionate commitment and what grabs the listener is that he is no mere journeyman but someone who truly believes in what he is doing. He seems to put his whole being into the tracks he's laid down here and this gives them an intensity that sucks in the listener and heightens their affective involvement. This applies to up tempo songs like Shakey Ground as well as reflective ballads such as Glory Bound. Fans of Randy Newman will be overwhelmed by Farlowe's acapella rendition of "I Think It's Going To Rain Today" that truly captures the spirit of the song/poem.
Farlowe is a master of his genre and this is his most accomplished offering to date. Yet sadly, being not part of that mainstream favoured by the industry, few people will get to hear this and that is their loss. If there is anyone who deserves to be given the recognition and esteem they deserve it is Chris Farlowe and my advice to those who read this review is to go out and buy this album because there are not many in the field of soul, blues and jazz-blues fusion that are better.(~~Stewart Lawson,customer)
This is the second album of the Chris Farlowe reissue series. The 2013 version is a remastered edition including two bonus tracks ""Feel The Power Of Love"", a duet with Lorna B from 2000 and submitted for Eurovision 2000 and the live version of ""Handbags and Gladrags"", never been released before.The Album is basically a blues ballads collection of lots of songs which, although interpreted by Farlowe, are not from his hand. Thus, the term solo album is not exactly right, it's more an album of cover versions of such blues musicians as DELBERT McCLINTON, RANDY NEWMAN, JOHNNY GUITAR WATSON, or LONNIE MACK.
