“My first experience on stage was when I was ten years old and I sang in a talent contest. I just loved being on stage and I knew then and there that I wanted to do this” she says. “Guitar and songwriting came later, but since I was as young as I can remember, singing was something that brought me so much happiness.”
#777Brought up in Wiltshire, England on everything from Stax and Motown, to Folk, Rock ‘n’ Roll and Chicago Blues, Dani’s soulful songs of joy, pain and sometimes anger at the world, bring blues and soul to a new generation.
“I enjoy interviews where I’m asked what my lyrics are about. I’m currently writing my new record which touches on everything from the children I work with each year in Africa, to falling in love, friendship and the recent riots in England.”
In 2007, following a performance opening for Jools Holland at The Royal Albert Hall, Dani was picked up by International blues label ‘Ruf Records’. Dani’s debut album was released on Ruf in 2008.
“My debut, Heal My Blues, was a reflection of my life at the time but so much has changed since then in my life and also economically and socially around the world. This has really affected the way in which I have developed as a songwriter over the years.”
The release of Heal My Blues was followed by a World Tour opening for USA artists Candye Kane and Deborah Coleman. The tour launched Dani onto the International blues scene allowing her to quickly build a large following. In 2010, Dani went back into the studio to record her second album for Ruf Records entitled ‘Shine’.
“Making Shine was such a great opportunity. Mike Vernon, who is a big hero of mine, came out of retirement to produce the album for me. Mike has worked with so many of my hero’s in the 60’s and 70’s including possibly my favorite ever guitar player Peter Green. He brought in top musicians for me to work with including Pete Wingfield (Van Morrison, Buddy Guy) on keys, Roger Innis (Chaka Kahn, Sherman Robertson) on bass and even Van Morrison’s horn section. Also, I had the honor of working with guitarist Stuart Dixon on this record. Stuart has played for Marcus Malone, Geno Washington and has even shared the stage with Eddie Floyd. Stu has so much heart, soul and feeling in his playing; I was so happy when he agreed to join my live band and work in partnership with me.””
Having toured ‘Shine’ in Europe and the UK including sharing the stage with Pee Wee Ellis (James Brown’s Saxophonist) at WOMAD Festival, the success of the new record brought Dani further opportunity. With BBC Radio 2 airplay on the Bob Harris and Paul Jones show, she was invited on board Ruf’s ‘Girls with Guitars’ project with Samantha Fish (Kansas City), and Cassie Taylor (Colorado). In Winter 2010, the three ladies went into the studio in Berlin with drummer Jamie Little and cut the ‘Girls with Guitars’ album.
“Being a part of Girls with Guitars has been so much fun. We didn’t realise how successful it would become. We sold out shows across Europe, The USA and Canada. The tours were long and hard work; around 100 dates this year, but it was great to work as a team with these talented women; and then we ended the tour on the Legendary Blues Cruise which really was a dream come true.”
Winter 2011 sees Dani back in the studio, recording album number three for Ruf Records entitled ‘Juice me up’.
“Jamie Little did such a good job producing my new record. He has so many idea’s that I just wouldn’t think of myself. I’ve worked really hard on my songwriting for this album and really taken influence from so many of my hero’s including Sam Cooke, Otis Redding, Michael Jackson, Little Richard, James Brown, Bill Withers, Buddy Guy and Paul Weller.”
‘Juice me up’ features some of the UK’s top session players including Pete Wingfield on Keys (Paul McCartney) and Roger Innis (Chaka Khan) on Bass. Dani Shares guitar duties with Stuart Dixon and also featured her brother Will ‘Harmonica’ Wilde on a track entitled ‘Mississippi Kisses’.
The New record will be released in February 2012, but first Dani has another very important project to take on.
“Every year I travel to Embu in Kenya. I work alongside a fantastic charity called Moving Mountains to help bring opportunity and safety to children in Embu’s slums. The poverty these angels have to endure is truly heartbreaking. Aids is epidemic; there are so many orphans and to make things worse, this year they’ve had a drought which raised the cost of food leaving thousands starving. Working with Moving Mountains, I’m able to build classrooms, and to give schools the equipment they lack such as Pens, Paper, School Books, Sports Equipment, Music and Art Equipment and also to provide water and improve sanitation.”

From January to May 2012, Dani will be touring with Samantha Fish and British bassist Victoria Smith on the ‘More Girls With Guitars’ tour across Europe. From June 2012 she will be back on the road with a British band including Brother Will Wilde on harmonica and Stuart Dixon (Marcus Malone, Geno Washington) on guitar.
“Girls with Guitars is great but I can’t wait to be back with my own band. I’ve missed my brother, who’s signed to ‘Rock the Earth’ and has been touring the world with his solo project. 2012 is already looking pretty damn exciting… Bring it on!”
