В 1929-1930 годах он часто записывался на студии «Парамаунт» (Paramount), а в 1934 году - на «Вокалион» (Vocalion), и эти записи наглядно подтверждают широту его репертуара. Возможно, именно объемы продаж записей Паттона внушили записывающим компаниям мысль записывать также и его аккомпаниаторов, гитариста Вилли Брауна, скрипача Генри Симса (Henry Sims) и певицу Берту Ли (Bertha Lee), его последнюю жену.
Естественно, Паттон исполнял блюзы от первого лица, многие из них - о его отношениях с женщинами, а кроме того - о том, как его арестовывали за пьянство и кокаин («A Spoonful Blues»), о радостях секса («Shake It and Break It»), или, как в «Down the Dirt Road Blues», это могли быть яркие зарисовки о жизни чернокожих в Миссиссиппи. Паттон создал значительное количество злободневных песен, таких как блюз о засухе «Dry Well» и «High Water Everywhere», почти кинематографический по живости описания песенный рассказ о наводнении 1927 года в Миссиссиппи.
