(Eclectic Prog / Progressive Rock) Praxis - La Eternidad de lo Efimero - 1994, APE (image+.cue), lossless

Praxis is less known prog band from the '80's, maybe not because they were from Mexico but due to the fact thet they begun their career in the mid '80's, when, as everybody knows prog music was almost dead. So from the beggining this album was neither a comercial virtue or a popular advertising for press or world wide listners. The music Praxis play is eclectic prog meets symphonic prog. One of the members from here Ricardo Moreno ,is from Iconoclasta ( a jazz group from Mexico from mid '80's) and is clear that the music from La eternidat de lo efimero is influenced by them. Practiceing an up tempo kind of symphonic prog with a lot of great interplays betwen guitar and keys, with real strong moments like No se quien soy desde que se quien eres - I think the best piece from here, the rest are ok. The album is a good one and desearve from me 3 stars, maybe not somthing realy special, but not bad at all. If the album were more diverse in ideas, many time they repet themself in many passages, specialy the drum moments. Anyway a pleasent album most of the time, if you don't know this unknown band , you missed nothing, but if you want to try some Mexico prog music from the' 80's I suggest this one, worth couple of spins and is one of the few bands that Mexico has and have from prog music. Original release in 1987 at Discos Rosembach the album got the reissue in 1994 at mellow records, so if you are more towards eclectic with symphonic passages don't hesitate to have it.
"La Eternidad De Lo Efimero" is another great 80s Mexican prog album which features Ricardo Moreno from ICONOCLASTA. The music, as you might expect, is similar to ICONOCLASTA, but even more intense than DELIRIUM. The guitar and keyboard duels are jaw-dropping, and the band never slows down for too long. Fans of 70s progressive rock might be bothered by the digital keyboards, but the music certainly makes up for the coldness of the digital synths. The drums also have an 80s sound that might bother some listeners. I sometimes imagine that if this album had been done with Moog synths, and Hammond organ, it would have been considered a minor masterpiece. Unfortunately, the 80s style sounds rather odd today. Rumor has it that this entire album was recorded live in a TV studio (possibly for a TV show). If that's the case, the musicians are proven virtuosos and not just studio whizzes.

PRAXIS was a Mexican group that released one album in the eighties. The group consisted of Hector Hernandez (guitars), Ricardo Moreno (keyboards), Bernando Anaya (bass) and Hector Rosas (drums). PRAXIS was formed in Mexico City in the beginning of 1985 by bassist Anaya and guitarist Hernandez. Some time later, Rosas joined them on drums and Moreno on keyboards. Moreno had previously played in the most famous eighties Mexican group ICONOCLASTA. The group's aim was to express the inner essence of the members, within a musical style of unlimited aesthetic and creative possibilities.
The only album "La Eternidad de lo Efimero" was released in 1987. It was an independently produced record, which was very well received locally and abroad. In this album the personal eclectic style of the group is evident. It is coloured with many influences and is often original as well. "La Eternidad de lo Efimero" displays a variety of moods and tempos: often energetic and optimistic, sometimes introspective and melancholy. The guitars and keyboards are in spotlight and often trading solos.
After the sole album, Hector Rosas and Bernardo Anaya left PRAXIS to pursue other interests and Hector Hernandez joined ICONOCLASTA.
PRAXIS belongs to the pinnacle groups of Mexican progressive.
